Mount Elbert 2024

Climb of Mount Elbert with David Dunn, 2024-06-15.
Left around 04:00 and got to the trailhead as the sun was getting up.
White daisy.
View of a lake, still in the trees.
Still some snow in the shade.
Breaking treeline. What looks like the top up ahead is a significant false summit.
Looking back at Dave.
This fella with the dog was wearing a Berkeley Half-Marathon shirt.
Getting above this ridge reveals a view of Twin Lakes.
GPS watch, elevation in meters (≈13428 ft). Still 1,000 vertical feet to go!
Not sure if there was an animal or something I was trying to get a photo of.
Little alpine flowers.
Believe it or not, that up ahead is not quite the summit either.
Not so common to see trail signs up this high.
Mount Elbert, 14,433 ft. (twenty-first in a series).
Little rest and snack. Clouds and falling ice crystals had rolled in.
The trail is well-suited to dogs.
Heading down, in the tundra.
Snowman.
Here's a chubby marmot.
Yellow flowers.
Shaped steps in places.
It had been getting pretty hot by the time we got back down to the trees.
Witch's brooms caused by dwarf mistletoe.
Dwarf mistletoe itself.
Epic witch's broom.
All this sticker is missing is some kind of label to tell me what it is.
