The purpose of Stanford Classics in Theater (SCIT) is to promote understanding of and engagement with classical theater through original research, rehearsal and production.
SCIT aims to bring together students from various academic backgrounds and interests, primarily among the graduate students of the Department of Classics, but also including undergraduates, faculty and others from the broader Stanford community.
During 2010-2011, SCIT will divide its mission into two halves based on the academic calendar. In the fall, the drama's text will be our focus as collaborate on an original translation of an ancient play; winter quarter will turn to production, beginning with auditions in January and concluding with a staged performance in March.
